Goal

Grand Rapids Street Medicine is a student-led organization that provides free and high-quality healthcare to those experiencing homelessness in Kent County through collaboration with community partners.

Purpose

Our primary purpose is to provide empathetic, trauma-informed and essential care with the ultimate goal of empowering patients to re-engage with the healthcare system.

Our Values

Patient-Centered Care: Aiming to meet patients where they are, on their terms, and when they are ready to connect with healthcare services.

Accessibility: Connecting patients to long-term healthcare management and primary care.

Autonomy and empowerment: Prioritizing empathic and trauma-informed care to create spaces where patients can voice their own concerns and are encouraged to take ownership over their health.

Creating future leaders: Develop the next generation of compassionate physicians and advocates by utilizing the, “streets as a classroom” platform to learn from the experiences of our neighbors.

Effective Utilization of Resources: Creatively and responsibly utilize healthcare resources while decreasing reliance on emergency and hospital services for chronic and preventable conditions.

Community Collaboration: Bolster necessary healthcare services provided by our organization through support and collaboration with community partners.

Social Awareness: Recognizing and addressing the social determinants of health that are fueled by social inequities
